Barnor tops all

Accra, July 21, GNA - Joshua Barnor of Panix Boxing Gym of Accra emerged tops of the finals of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association' (GAABA) inaugural boxing league which ended on Friday at the Prisons Canteen, Cantonments.

The featherweight boxer was adjudged the most outstanding boxer after finals of the the18-week competition by the Technical Committee of the Association, as the boxer did not lose a bout during the championship.


Barnor who is the Regional champion in the featherweight category was presented with a cash prize of 200, 000 cedis (20GH=A2) in recognition of his wonderful exploits during the five-month long championships.


The young boxer was presented with his award at a short ceremony to reward boxers after the ultimate week fixtures.

For the other weight divisions, Duke Micah (Fit Square) - Light Flyweight, Jackson Nortey (Bronx Gym) - Bantamweight, Victor Kuwornu (Bronx Gym) - Featherweight, Offei Dodoo (Attoh Quarshie Gym) - Lightweight, Ben Lamptey (Will Power Gym) - Light Welterweight , Emmanuel Quarshie (Attoh Quarshie Gym) - Welterweight, King Paul (Attoh Quarshie Gym) - Middleweight, and Maxwell Amponsah (Jah Bless Gym) - Light Heavyweight all reigned supreme in their respective categories. Each winner in the weight division received a CD Ghetto Blaster, a mini-bag of rice, beverages and a towel. Dan Kissco of Ashaiman Gym was honoured with the Dedication and Valour award.


Mr Gideon Quartey, Vice - Chairman of GAABA appealed to corporate institutions to support the second edition, which is billed to commence very soon. He commended the various gyms for their support in making the championship a success and commended the media for publishing the event. 21 July 07
