Mawuko Afadzinu, President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), has called on table tennis players to remain discipline and committed to the cause of the sports as they gear for the 2015 All Africa Games in Congo.
Speaking in an interview after the Top Eight Table Tennis Competition at the Accra Sports Stadium, Afadzinu, said the players had what it takes to excel at the Games if they remained focused, train well and follow the instructions of the technical team.
He said the GTA, will ensure that, the necessary structures are put in place to bring the best out of the players at the competition.
"We will develop more competitions for the players to put them in the best of shapes for the AAG." Mr. Afadzinu stated.
He commended the participants for their excellent performance in the competition, “You have played good games and I must commend you all for the wonderful display of sportsmanship.
“What we witnessed today clearly shows we need more of such tournaments. Let us keep it up, keep up your games as well.
“We have increased the prize money in the league to ¢5,000. These are measures to ensure that we keep the level of competition high.”
Ghana’s top seed and defending champion Derek Abrefa retained his crown after triumphing 3-1 over perennial rival and colleague Felix Lartey of Ghana Immigration Service GIS).
Linda Annor recorded an impressive 3-1 win (11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 12-10), over Afua Oforiwaa to win the ladies event.
