Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan, Chief of Tamale has asked the Black Stars to go all out in their Wednesday encounter against Guinea and win convincingly to serve as an assurance of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
He said the entire Dagbon state was behind the team and would continue to offer the necessary prayers to ensure victory. “We are all behind you and we are asking nothing but a convincing win to continue to top your group as an assurance that you are qualifying for AFCON 2015”.
Naa Dakpema Alhassan was addressing players and the technical team who paid a courtesy call on him at the Dakpema Palace on Tuesday. The courtesy call was to announce their presence in Tamale and to seek the blessing of the chief as they play their first competitive match in Tamale.
Naa Dakpema Alhassan said the entire nation was proud of the Black Stars who continue to use football to unite the country saying, “Apart from football, there is nothing that unites us as a nation and I wish to commend you for moving the sport beyond entertainment.
“As we are praying for your success, don’t leave any stone unturned, avoid complacency and win the match to make Ghana proud because our hopes are on you”, he said.
Captain Asamoah Gyan thanked the chief and people of Tamale for the massive support accorded the team on arrival in Tamale on Monday.
He expressed the hope that the Black Stars would emerge victors on Wednesday.
Naa Dakpema Dawuni Alhassan presented smocks to each player, the coach and other members of the technical team as souvenirs.
Kwesi Nyantakyi, president of Ghana Football Association (GFA) was en-skinned as a football development chief and decorated with a chieftaincy smock and a walking stick.
There was near stampede at the Dakpema Palace as people thronged the Palace to catch a glimpse of the Black Star players who danced to the tunes of the local drums.
Abdul Majeed Waris and Mubarak Wakaso won hearts by joining the locals to perform some routine dance.
