Ghana international winger Cofie Bekoe has joined Libyan champions Al Ittihad after failing to extend his contract with Belgian side SK Lierse.

The 24-year-old playmaker had a torrid time at Lierse where he failed to command a regular place despite his huge talent and signing for Ittihad comes as a big relief for him as he had often stated that he wants to leave the club.

“Bekoe has completed a two-year move to Libyan champions Al Ittihad and this is very good for him as he seeks to get to top form again,” his agent Daniel Boakye Mensah of Absolute Sports Consult told Goal Ghana.

“The deal is a good deal, we had other deals from some clubs in the Belgium league and Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon also tended in a last minute bid but the Ittihad offer was better.”

Bekoe trained with Queens Park Rangers under Harry Redknapp two months ago and despite impressing the coach he could not secure a deal because he has not played 70 percent or more games for Black Stars which is a requirement.

The former Nania FC and Tema Youth player will be playing in Libya for the second time after previously playing for Tripoli Sporting Club during the 2005-2006 season where he rose to become one of the key stars in the team.

He has also played in Malaysia for Kuala Lumpur FA before moving to Egypt where he made name with Petrojet by scoring seven times in 29 appearances.
