Hot prospect Benjamin Ashley is demanding an immediate fight against newly crowned WBO Africa Light welterweight champion Ebenezer Lamptey.

Ashley (18-1, 11 KOs), claimed a round 10 TKO victory over Jonathan Yartey in his latest fight last Friday in Accra and immediately set sight on the 25 year old Ebenezer Lamptey.

“I have beaten all the tough guys in the division and now it’s left with only Ebenezer Lamptey so I want to beat him too to prove that I’m the best super lightweight in Ghana.

“Like every boxer, I want to also be a world champion but it's all step by step so I have to cement my status as the best in Ghana first," Ashley exclusively told www.sportsinghana.com.

Both Benjamin Ashley and Ebenezer Lamptey come from the coastal town of Chorkor in Accra and according to Hon. Wallace Nii Tackie-Komme, manager of Ashley, sets of supporters of the two fighters have been intensely engaged in protracted arguments over which is the better boxer. Hence the need to settle the issue in the ring.

“It’s been a long time since Chorkor have been divided over which one of them is better but I know my boxer and I know he will destroy Ebenezer Lamptey. I want him to cement his status in Ghana before we go international.

“So we are pleading with Golden Mike (promoters of Lamptey) to just agree to this fight and let’s fix a date,” Hon. Tackie-Komme, also Acting Chairman of the Greater Accra Amateur Boxing Association (GAABA) demanded.

It remains to be seen if the managers of Lamptey (21-1 16 KOs) who claimed the hitherto vacant WBO Super Lightweight belt only last month in Accra courtesy a unanimous points decision over Ecuadorian Eduardo Flores, will give in to the demands of Ashley.

But renowned Matchmaker Solomon Otoo Lartey is calling on the two camps of the boxers to agree to the fight he believes will be a super one on the local boxing scene. “It will be an exciting and all action fight, trust me. I’ve followed the rise of both boxers and I know the quality they both have.

“I believe their respective futures are very bright but it’s good to determine who is the best so they have to make this fight happen,” Mr. Otoo Lartey stated.
