Ex-Ghana striker Ibrahim Tanko says clubs in the country's top-flight must secure more sponsorship deals to improve salaries of their player to help fight against the incessant exodus to foreign leagues.

The former Cameroon assistant coach believes in the absence of a minimum wage rate for players in the local league, most top flight clubs have resorted to paying meager salaries to players, resulting in the player exodus to Europe and worryingly to Asian countries like Vietnam and Bangladesh.

After monitoring a series of Ghana league matches, Tanko has hailed the quality of players in the competition and feels the standard of the game can become even better if clubs are able to generate sponsorship to improve player salaries to stop the exodus.

“To be frank there are talents in the Ghana League. When people say the league is bad it is not. Teams must look out for sponsorship and pay the players well and they will get the best from players. Ghana’s league is one of the best in Africa”, he told Starr Sports.

The former Cameroon gaffer has shown keen interest in the Black Stars job when it becomes available after AFCON 2017.
