Junior 800m Olympic gold medalist Martha Bissah has threatened to switch her nationality if prevailing circumstances that seem to be hampering her career persist, DAILY GUIDE SPORTS understands.
Indications are that the young athlete is considering making herself available to any country that will accord her all the courtesies and the platform to excel.
It has also come up that the failure on the part of Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) to make the necessary arrangements for three key international competitions this year, has fuelled her interest to give up on her land of birth.
“She has threatened to run for any country that will express interest in her services if the situation remains unchanged. For now, no country has approached her but I can say for a fact that it is a decision she is considering fervently.
“Her inactivity due to lack of competition is certainly a recipe for disaster,” a source close to the Olympian said.
Similar situations in the past compelled athletes like long jumper Ignatius Gaisah to switch nationality and he now competes for Holland.
Martha, 17, made her country proud in the Youth Olympics in China last year, entering the country’s history books as the first Ghanaian to win gold in the Olympics at any level.
