PRESS RELEASE

The ‘Possibles’ To Battle The ‘Probables’-Black Bombers’

‘War Night’

The Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation (GABF) will be staging Black Bombers’ ‘war night’ on Saturday, 11th June, 2011, 3pm at the Bridge Foundation Gym, Aviation road extension, off Association of African Universities Office - Roman Ridge in Accra.

The 12-bout competition dubbed ‘ the Possibles vrs the Probables’ will see Team ‘A’ of the national amateur boxing team take-on Team ‘B’ as the latter seek to justify their inclusion into the former.

The Black Bombers having dominated the 2011 Africa Zone II Championship in Togo with 7 Gold and 3 Silver were scheduled to participate in the Africa Confederation Championship slated for June 2011 which was however not made possible due to the upcoming Unity Games being organized by the National Sports Council.

Nonetheless, the President of the GABF, Mr. Ray Quarcoo and his technical team are keen on keeping the Black Bombers in competition to ensure continuous assessment of their performances and to also enable boxers hone their boxing skills as well as keep in shape as the Federation prepares for crucial tournaments as the 2011 All Africa Games, AIBA World Championship and the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The Federation in its bid to put an end to ad-hoc preparations towards competitions is also in the process of scheduling joint training programs and competitions with neighboring countries(Nigeria, Benin) to enable boxers experience International competition; this constitutes the Federation’s short-medium term plan.

The GABF therefore invites all boxing enthusiasts to come witness what promises to be a fantastic and entertaining boxing fiesta as the ‘Probables’ take-on the ‘Possibles’ this weekend.

The Federation registers its gratitude to Mr. Dave Harper, the Chairman of the GABF sponsorship committee and the Chief Executive Officer of Geodrill Mining Co. Ltd. for sponsoring this Championship after having sponsored other equally important ones.

The Federation is also thanking Mrs. Gemma Knight, a fitness instructor at the Bridge Foundation Gym for putting the Black Bombers through their workout routines and ensuring their overall wellness and fitness.
