Black Bombers intensifies preparations ahead of Gold Coast 2018

The Ghana Amateur boxing team, the Black Bombers have intensified their preparations, ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, as the team has moved into residential camping.

The team, which started with a non-residential camping in Accra, three months ago, is made up of ten boxers, who are currently camping at the new Cape Coast Sports Stadium and training under the assistant coach Vincent Akai, due to the absence of head coach Ofori Asare, who is in Ethiopia to conduct a course for the Ethiopian Boxing Federation.

Seven of the ten boxers have automatic slots from the government to represent team Ghana, but the Federation has said it was pushing to raise funds on her own to sponsor the remaining three to join as well.

Speaking in an interview with the GNA Sports, Mr George Lamptey said the Federation was happy with the preparations so far, as the boxers were happy with the conditions in camp.

“They are comfortable with the facilities at Cape Coast as well as preparations, so far unlike previously, where we had to wait for the last day,” Mr Lamptey said.

He added that the Federation was grateful to the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Authority (NSA) for their support to the team.

The boxers called up for camp include: (former Commonwealth bronze medallist) Wahid Omar (60kg), Suleman Tetteh (49kg), Samuel Addo (56kg), Akimos Ampiah (52kg), Jessie Lartey (64kg), Abubakar Quartey (69kg), Azuma Mohammed (69kg), Musah Ramah Lawson (75kg), Majors Suleman (91kg), and Shakuul Samil 75kg.
