Head coach of the national female under-17 team, Baba Nuhu has assured Ghanaians of victory in the first leg of their World Cup qualifier against Liberia.
The Maidens left the shores of Ghana on Friday afternoon for the game which will be played at the Antoinete Tubman Stadium in Monrovia on Sunday.
Speaking to the media ahead of the team’s departure, head coach Baba Nuhu said that the players are prepared to deliver victory for Ghana.
He said that after almost four months of training, his charges are in the best shape to win the match.
He noted that qualifying for the World Cup is their ultimate target and won’t allow Liberia to stand their way.
“We have been preparing in Prampram for four weeks and we’ve not had any major issue. The team is in the form we want them to be and we are ready for Liberia. I watched their last game and they have some players who when given the opportunity can score.
“Our long term plan is the world Cup but our short term plans is to do away with Liberia first and everything is on this first leg. All plans, preparations are on Liberia for this first leg”.
The skipper of the side, Alhassan Basira said her colleagues are determined to emulate the successes of previous Maidens teams. She admitted the pressure on them to deliver but assured Ghanaians of qualification to the World Cup.
“We are well prepared for the Liberia games because we have played a lot of friendly matches. It’s not going to be a difficult game for us because in West Africa Ghana is one of the top countries and the team we are having no one can threaten us”.
