Even before they play South Africa in the final qualifying round to gain one of Africa’s 3 slots to this year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Azerbaijan 2012 scheduled for September 22 to October 13, Ghana’s Black Maidens are promising to up their game and impress in Azerbaijan.

Participants at the maiden two tournaments so far, the Black Maidens have crashed out in the opening round on both occasions but Priscilla Okyere, captain of the class of 2012 is pledging better results for Ghana.

“I went to Trinidad and Tobago two years ago and now I’m captain. I want to tell Ghanaians that they should watch out for us because of the good coaches we have and the hardwork they are taking us through,” 16 year old Okyere told Joy FM after leading the Maidens to beat Cameroon 4-0 in Accra on Sunday to complete a 5-0 aggregate win and qualification to the final qualifying round.

The Maidens will face South Africa, who hammered Namibia 5-0 in Johannesburg to earn through 6-1 on aggregate. But the Ghana captain remains confident that she and her teammates will not only qualify, but also make an impression at the tournament proper.

Priscilla Okyere told Joy FM:

“We’ve been there (World Cup) twice already and we didn’t do well but this time we promise it will be different.

“Ghanaians should put their trust in us because when we go this time, we are going to do very well.”
