Pravda Sports 93.5 FM’s checks can confirm that the Sports Ministry is yet to release funds to pay the bonuses of the national under-17 women’s football team, the Black Maidens following their qualification to this year’s under-17 Women’s World Cup to be staged in Azerbaijan.

The Black Maidens booked their place in the Mundial after beating South Africa 5-1 on aggregate last month and were assured of the bonuses but are still waiting for the promises to be fulfilled.

There are growing fears that the late payment of the bonuses could dampen the morale of the Maidens as they embark on preparations for the global championship.

Spokesperson of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Akwasi Sarpong has told Pravda Sports 93.5FM his outfit is working on the bonuses of the Maidens and wants the players to remain patient. “We acknowledge the fact that they have qualified and they are due their bonus, and that is being worked out. In due course, when everything is settled and the money hits the account, they will be given the money,” Mr. Sarpong said.

He added, pleadingly: “We crave of them to exercise some restraint as we know it goes through processes.”
