Head Coach of Ghana’s senior female national team, Mercy Tagoe has advised the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to move the 2020 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) tournament to next year.

Almost all activities at CAF level have grind to a halt due to the Corona Virus pandemic. The situation has affected the football calendar badly.

Ghana’s Black Queens, one of the many national teams affected as a result of this, were originally set to engage in the qualifiers for the tournament.

With Football suspended across the continent and an uncertainty about when playing can resume at that level, Marcy Tagoe has advised the continent’s football governing body, CAF to push the 2020 AWCON tournament to next year.

She told Happy FM in an interview, “The tournament was supposed to happen this year but qualifiers haven’t happened. So if the qualifiers didn’t happen then it means the tournament cannot start. So if we can fix it for February-March next year and the COVID-19 situation has improved, then we can move it to next year.

The AWCON 2020 tournament was set to set from 23 November and end on 20 December.
