Black Queens to acclimatise in Pretoria

Accra, August 17, GNA - The Management Committee of the Black Queens has programmed a two-week acclimatisation tour in Pretoria, South Africa ahead of the team's campaign in next month's Africa Women's Championship.

The programme currently awaiting ministerial approval, replaces the initial regional tour which was put together by the management after the Queens qualified for the championship by disposing of Guinea last month. Mr Aloysius Denkabe, Chairman of the Committee told the GNA Sports that plans are far advanced for the Queens to pitch camp in the South African city where they would engage some local teams before the championship.

"The Ministry has shown enormous interest in the trip and we are only awaiting the green light coupled with the accompanied finances to take off in style".

He said the Committee was in serious talks with some South African clubs who have expressed interest in testing the might of the Queens when they arrive in Pretoria on Thursday, September 1.

Mr Denkabe was positive that the trip would afford the team the necessary training facilities coupled with the desired challenge capable of bracing up the players for the assignment ahead.

"We are convinced that getting access to improved facilities and engaging tough opponents would keep us in a perfect shape to cause a stir at the competition," he told the GNA.

The Queens are currently ranked 13th in the World and their focus at the moment is to dethrone the Super Falcons of Nigeria who have won all three championships during the three-week fiesta.

The bi-annual competition will see the South Africans hosting for the second time in four years and billed to commence on September 15 with eight countries plying for honours.
