Black Satellites beat Vipers in a friendly

Cape Coast (Central Region) -- The Ghana Black Satellites, beat Cape Coast Venomous Vipers 2-0 in a friendly match played at the Cape Coast sports stadium on Monday.

The match formed part of warm up matches for the satellites who are undergoing intensive training at the Winneba sports college in preparation for the African Youth tournament scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso early next year.

Even though Vipers lost, they were not humiliated as they matched their opponents squarely in the first half. Kicking off under the instruction of Cape Coast based class one referee Joshua Mensah, Vipers attacked first and carried the game into their opponents' half for most of the time, but the able defence of the Satellites foiled their attempts to find the net.

The Satellites took control of affairs in the 25th minute and with their forwards made up of Abubakar Alhassan, Awudu Samadu, William Thompson and Michael Ocansey combining beautifully, they brought persistent pressure on Vipers and scored the match opener in the 33rd minute when inside left Alhassan collected a pass from Quartey to score.

On resumption, Vipers made three substitutions, which rather weakened their midfield and allowed their opponents to penetrate their defence with ease. It therefore came as no surprise when inside left Samadu, was put through by centre half Quartey, to increase the tally to 2-0 in the 66th minute.

Vipers made frantic efforts to get a consolation goal, but try as they did, they could not break through the ironclad defence of the Satellites.
