Ghana’s U-20 men team, Black Satellites have booked their place in 2019 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations set to take place in Niger after drawing 1-1 with Benin 2-0 in Cotonou on Sunday.
The Black Satellites advanced to the next year's tournament in Niger 4-2 on aggregate. Ghana won 3-1 in the first-leg meeting a week ago in Cape Coast, where coach Jimmy Cobblah’s charges demonstrated nothing but pure class in their attacking third.
In that matchup, Benin were happy to sit deep and defend too deep, however, this was not the case and they deservedly opened the scoring in the 56th minute after a goalless first half.
The lead lasted for 24 minutes as WAFA midfielder Prosper Ahiabu pulled parity to share the spoils and send Ghana through.
Ghana joins Burkina Faso, Burundi, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and hosts Niger as the teams to qualify for the 8 team tournament.
The tournament will take place in Niger between 24 February – 10 March 2019.
The top four teams will qualify as CAF’s representatives for the 2019 FIFA U-20 world cup to be hosted in Poland in May.
