Black Stars Supporters Union donates to Stars

Sunyani, (B/A) Nov. 28, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional branch of Black Stars Supporters Union has donated a cow, five bags of rice and three drums of cooking oil all valued at 10 million cedis to the Black Stars for qualifying to next year's FIFA World Cup in Germany.

The Regional branch comprises members drawn from the northern sector that includes those from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

The Brong Ah afo branch has its membership from Berekum, Dormaa Ahenkro, Jaman, Wenchi Districts as well as the Techiman and Sunyani Municipalities.

Mr. Jeffrey Attu Jonah, President of the Regional branch who presented the items at a well attended ceremony at the Sunyani Coronation Park said it is gratifying that the members had followed with keen interest the performance of the players in the qualifying series. He said that, "The items were the widow's mite of the 150-strong Union" and expressed the hope that the donation would help boost the morale of the players and officials to perform creditably at next year's African Cup of Nation's in Egypt and the World Cup competition. Accompanied by some of the executive members of the Union, Mr. Jonah announced that the body had obtained a certificate of incorporation under the Companies Code of 1963 (Act 179) from the Register General's Department. Mr Jonah said the Registry of Companies had by a certificate dated November 14, 2005 endorsed the application of the Union to commence business with effect from November 15, 2005.

The regional President said that the Union would organise a fund-raising harvest in December to mobilize funds towards the progress of Black Stars.

Mr. Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister received the items on behalf of the Regional Coordinating Council and urged members of the Union who might travel to Egypt and Germany to be good ambassadors of the country.

The Deputy Regional Minister later handed over the items to Mr. Anane Frimpong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Sports Development Officer of the National Sports Council.
