The Gambian national team, the Scorpions, will take on Ghana in a prestige friendly.

The Gambia Football Association (GFA) has announced that it has concluded arrangements for a friendly match between the Scorpions and Ghana.

GFA president Gabbie Sosseh said the match will be played in Banjul on 24 May.

"I have just despatched our acceptance letter for the conditions set forward by Ghana and the match will surely go ahead,'' he told BBC Sport.

The Gambia, which heads Group 8 of the African Nations Cup qualifiers, meets neighbouring Senegal in Dakar on 8 June.

The tiny nation want to beat the World Cup quarter finalists, after holding them to a draw in Banjul at the end of March.

"We are happy to have strong opposition in Ghana. It will help us prepare well'', said GFA secretary general Jammeh Bojang.

The last time Gambia played Ghana was on 12 November 1994, a day after a coup attempt.

It was a qualifying match for the 1996 Nations Cup finals, which Ghana won 2-1.
