Black Stars for 4-Nation Tournament

The Black Stars, the senior national football team of Ghana will leave Accra on Monday, for Nairobi to participate in a four-nation tournament in Kenya.

Sponsored by a South African Brewery Company (S.A.B.) the four nation tournament will begin on Wednesday and end on Saturday October 28.


The sponsors have provided fifty-seven thousand, seven hundred dollars for the tournament.


The winner of the tournament will receive nineteen thousand dollars and the runner-up, fifteen thousand dollars. Third and fourth placed countries will receive thirteen thousand dollars respectively.


All participating teams will receive seven thousand dollars each as an appearance fee while each player gets a per diem of twenty-six dollars. The sponsors of the tournament are given a prize of six hundred and forty-one dollars for the best media coverage in terms of objective reporting.

ACCRA, Oct 19 (Reuters)(DS) - Ghana have named nine foreign-based players in an 18-man squad for next week's Four Nations tournament in Nairobi, organisers said on Thursday.


Coach Fred Osman Duodu recalled defender Joseph Addo, who plays for Tampa Bay Mutiny in the American MLS, after several years' absence. Ghana have also called up Bayern Munich reserve Christian Saba and Bashiru Gambo from Borussia Dortmund for the tournament, wich sees them play Uganda in the first semifinal next Wednesday. Kenya and Tanzania play in the other match on Wednesday with the two winners going through to the final on October 28.

Ghana have been unable to call up players from champions Hearts of Oak who will be involved in a vital African Champions League match in Egypt on October 27.

Strikers: Adamu Baba (Al Shabab), Arhin Duah (Goldfields), Nana Frimpong (King Faisal Babes), Issah Mohammed (Hassacas)
