Kumasi, June 2, GNA - A former member of the Black Stars, Nii Odartey Lamptey has taken a swipe at the management and technical team accusing them of not engaging the team in series of international friendly matches ahead of this year's World Cup tournament in South Africa.
Such friendly matches, he noted would have helped to identify any flaws in the team to aid the technical handlers to correct and find antidotes to them.
"The Stars lacked cohesion and tactical discipline as exposed in their match against the Netherlands last night", he told the GNA Sports in Kumasi. The former Black Stars' player said much as the team can boast of some brilliant individual players, the same can not be said of their team work adding that this can be costly to the team in their World Cup matches. Nii Odartey Lamptey also questioned the tactics adopted by the technical team in the match against the Netherlands and said playing one man upfront was counterproductive.
"The Coach would have to vary his strategy and at least play two strikers in attack".
The former player pointed out that the World Cup was not a stage for experimentation and asked the technical handlers to work hard to find answers to the team's shortcomings.
Nii Odartey Lamptey however urged all Ghanaians to rally solidly behind the team to enable them bring pride to the nation. He was one of the few juvenile players who were included in the Stars' team that won silver at the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal. 02 June 10
