Black Stix ready for African challenge

The national women’s hockey team, the Black Stix, is putting finishing touches to preparations ahead of the 2013 Africa Hockey Cup of Nations.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at the City Park Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya from September 26, 2013 to October 6, 2013.

“We have been preparing well for some time now,” Coach Boakye Yiadom told TV3’s Joel Acheampong on Thursday, September 19, 2013.

He said the technical team is adopting a policy of blending new and old players in order to get a formidable team for the tourney. South Africa has dominated the tournament, having won six of the previous seven editions. The 7th edition will also be qualifying tournament for the 2014 Hockey World Cup to be held in the Netherlands.
