Ex-Kotoko midfielder Yusif Alhassan Chibsah has blamed the mass exodus of players on the hanker for money.
The Swedish-based midfielder says the perceived weighty pay packets of foreign clubs have attracted the unyielding desires of players to seek greener pastures.
Ghanaian players jump at the least opportunity to sign for clubs in far-flung countries due to their poor working conditions in the West African country.
The situation has robbed the domestic top-flight of quality and the former Ghana Under-23 captain has advised footballers not to rush in jumping on the next available flight.
“I think during our days we were happy to be playing for local Clubs. We were not in a rush to go out though we admired to be professional players, We had the time to allow ourselves to mature in the game,” he told Starr FM.
“I played for King Faisal for three years right from colts football to the Premier League I didn’t just get into the starting eleven.”
“I was there for a while then I move to Kotoko. So I spent about eight seasons in the League before I left. But in recent times the player excodus is on the high every player wants to go out.”
“I don’t blame the managers or president but rather the players, every player wants go out, at times u get thousand calls. Some players are not even in the second division or third division but yet they want to go outside so I think is up the individual players to set target for themselves.”
“They should know when they are ripe and mature to go outside. Because is not easy out there, there is a lot of challenges out there. They should give themselves time to mature before leaving.”
