Ghana striker Richmond Boakye-Yiadom opened his Italian Serie A goal account with a strike for Atalanta in their 2-1 away triumph over Cagliari on Sunday afternoon.
The 21-year-old cushioned the lead for the Blue and Blacks with a trademark close range finish in the 67th minute to announce his return to the Italian top-flight.
Marcelo Estigarribia raced the visitors into the lead in the 4th minute at the Stadio Is Arenas before Boakye, a Juventus loanee, announced his presence with a fabulous finish, popping up at the right place to nail the game beyond Cagliari.
Boakye had come close to registering his first goal in the 50th minute but his shot crashed into a Cagliari defender and went wide.
The 2013 Ghana U20 FIFA World Cup striker returned to the Serie A after ending his flourishing loan spell at Spanish La Liga outfit Elche FC last season.
Boakye’s limited experience in the Serie A comes on the back of his appearance in the league for Genoa four seasons ago when he became the youngest African player to score in the top-flight.
He is hoping to translate his fine pre-season form into the league and his goal on Sunday afternoon has indicated his readiness to shine.
