Accra, Dec. 23, GNA - Spanish-based Ghanaian midfielder Derek Boateng on Wednesday donated assorted items worth 2,000 Ghana cedis to children on admission at the Princess Marie Louise Children's Hospital. The items included Energy drinks, Milo, Milk Powder, biscuits and sugar. Boateng who plays for La Liga side Getafe said the donation forms part of his social responsibility towards improving the lives of the under privileged in society.
He said he was touched by a video he watched in Zimbabwe which portrayed children living under unsuitable conditions.
The midfielder played a cameo role in the Stars qualification for the South Africa 2010 World Cup and the Orange Africa Cup of Nations, Angola 2010. Margaret Okine, Senior Nursing Officer on behalf of the Management and Staff of the Hospital thanked the midfielder for his contribution which she described as timely.
"This donation has come at the appropriate and we are grateful for the gesture that would put the smiles on the children." Boateng later handed the gift packs to the children of the hospital at the Emergency and Malnutrition Units.
This is the third time the midfielder is making a donation to a public institution. For the past two years, he has donated assorted items to the Osu Children's Home.
