Boateng is new ATL Table Tennis champion

Nana Yaw Boateng, National Under-17 Table Tennis Champion, on Saturday defeated the current national table tennis champion, Solomon Ackono to win this year's Akosombo Textile Limited(ATL) National Open Table Tennis Championship in the men division..

He received 400,000 cedis and a piece of fabric from the sponsors of the tournament as his prize.

Kofi Larbi of Greater Accra who came second in the all play all among the best eight players of the tournament received 300,000 cedis and a fabric while David Mills also of Greater Accra who was third was given 200,000 cedis and a fabric.

In the boys Under-17 Division, Twenebua Kodua of Greater Accra beat E ric Addo of Central Region 2-0 to win the first prize of 200,000 cedis and a fabric while Addo received 150,000 cedis and a fabric.

Ali Mohammed of Central Region who came third received 100,000 cedis and a fabric .

In the Women Division, Esther Lamptey of Greater Accra defeated Afua Oforiwaa of Central Region 2-0 to win the first prize of 400,000 cedis and a fabric while Oforiwaa received 300,000 and a fabric .

Beatrice Jessey who came third won 200,000 cedis and a fabric.

In the Girls Under-17 Division, Lucy Addo of Central Region came first and won 200,000 cedis and a fabric, Augustine Darko of Eastern Region who came second won 150,000 cedis and a fabric while Patricial Anku of Central Region came third and won 100,000 cedis and a fabric.

Boateng, winner of the men's division received a special prize of 100,000 cedis and a fabric for being the most promising player in the boys division while Gloria Asafo-Adjei of Eastern Region was also given a prize of 100,000 cedis and a fabric for being the most promising star in the girls division.

In his closing remarks, Nana Adjei Boateng, New Juabeng Municipal Chief Executive complained about the negative effect of falsification of ages in such competitions and called on the Ghana table Tennis Association to find a way of checking it in order to create an equal and fair playing field for all players.

He thanked ATL for the sponsorship packages saying it showed that the company is up to its social responsibility to the community.

Nana Baoteng said the New Juaben Municipal Assembly is determined to support the development of table tennis in the Municipality.

Mr. Ebo Bartels, National Chairman of the Ghana Table Tennis Association, expressed the appreciation of the Association to ATL for its fifth sponsorship of the championship.
