Ghanaian coach Isaac Boateng, popularly known as “Coach Opeele,” has shared his thoughts on the ongoing economic hardships in the country.

According to the former Asante Kotoko coach, Ghana's economic growth requires bold financial decisions.

During his vetting on Monday, January 13, 2025, Ato Forson revealed that, as Finance Minister, he intends to address high interest rates by reducing government spending. This approach, he argued, would help the country avoid excessive borrowing, which could trigger inflation and necessitate interest rate hikes, thereby increasing the cost of doing business.

However, Opeele has urged Ato Forson not to shy away from borrowing for the sake of the economy. Opeele tweeted on his X page, pointing out that the previous NPP government borrowed extensively, and therefore the NDC should do the same.

“Bro, in 2015, I wrote this article in the B&FT about Prez Mahama’s austere measures (e.g., govt cut spending). Citizens were not happy. I think Ato must not fear to borrow to spend. You cut spending to fix, but citizens start to complain. NPP borrowed. NDC should borrow but use it well,” he tweeted.
