Boxers disenchanted with Moses Foh-Amoaning's decisions

Accra, June 24, GNA - A number of Ghanaian professional boxers have registered their disillusionment at the way the Commonwealth Boxing Authority (CBA) always consults the acting Chairman of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) for eligibility before their fights.

In a petition signed by 28 professional boxers copied to the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, the CBA, the African Boxing Union and GBA among other organisations including the media said the right persons to be consulted on such important decisions should be their respective managers, agents and matchmakers.

The boxers who made reference to some of their recent loses said it is a bit disrespectful and damaging to their hard won credibility since in the spirit of the game, a fight is always won, lost or drawn and there was therefore the need for all to understand it as such.

They urged the GBA to focus on relevant issues rather than going beyond their assigned jurisdiction to act as matchmakers and agents of boxers.

"We professional boxers need to earn our living by boxing and pay what is due to our managers, agents and matchmakers"

They said such actions by Mr Moses Foh-Amoaning, the acting Chairman of the GBA and the CBA only seek to trample on their rights to earn a decent living in their chosen profession.

"In the future, we would appreciate it if we are dealt with as professionals and fully consulted on all matters relating to our profession rather than dictated to as it pertains in the present practice" the petition said

Some of the boxers who signed the petition are Malik Jabir, Alex Baba, Ayitey Power, Joshua Okine, Anyetei Laryea and Simon Peter Mcintosh.

They asked the GBA Chairman to stop using letters of release as political instruments to prevent contracted boxers from travelling to honour their fights.

The petition said if steps are not taken to arrest these developments, "We will have no alternative than to seek licenses from other regulatory bodies outside Ghana in furtherance of our chosen profession".
