Veteran writer and president of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah has bemoaned the high rate at which corruption is gaining prominence in Ghanaian football.

Speaking at the 42nd edition of the annual Sports Writers Association of Ghana Awards, Mr. Yeboah who is also President of the association expressed worry over how football in the country has been saddled with corruption lately.

According to him, the canker has reduced the integrity of football in the country and needs to be looked at urgently.

He charged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to confront the issue with all seriousness rather than resorting to the ostrich-like approach in an effort to resolve it.

He cited the recent ban imposed on highly rated Ghanaian referee, Joseph Lamptey by FIFA to corroborate his assertion that corruption in Ghana football is reaching its peak.

“Our football is badly weakened by corruption. The corruption is a result of greed and irresponsibility on the part some and also our collective failure in confronting the canker. Bribery is becoming a nerve-centre of this beautiful sport which is sad to relate”.
