Premier League club Brighton and Hove Albion have explained their decision to loan Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Osman to Feyenoord.

The Black Stars winger will join the Dutch team for the 2024/25 season.

The 19-year-old, who signed a five-year deal with Brighton from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland this summer, participated in the Premier League club's pre-season and made several appearances.

Despite his impressive pre-season performance, the former Nordsjaelland player has been loaned out for the new season.

Brighton's technical director, David Weir, explained that the loan move is due to the strong competition in the club’s wide areas.

"Ibrahim had a good pre-season with the squad. We have strong competition in the wide areas, and we believe it is better for Ibrahim’s development to play regular senior football. This is an excellent opportunity for him to play at Feyenoord, and we will be monitoring his progress throughout the season," a statement from the club reads.

The loan deal does not include a buy option, and Feyenoord will cover Osman's full wages.

Osman is expected to play a significant role for Feyenoord in the 2024/25 season. The Dutch giants began their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Willem II.

After finishing second in the league last season, Feyenoord has qualified for the group stages of this season’s Champions League.

Osman impressed in Denmark last season, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists in 44 appearances.

This loan move to Feyenoord is seen as a chance for him to gain valuable experience, similar to the development paths of Brighton players Kaoru Mitoma and Simon Adingra, who also benefited from loan spells before joining the first team.

Having already debuted for the Black Stars, Osman is eager to solidify his place in the national team.
