Bristol City manager Derek McInnes declared himself “delighted” that winger Albert Adomah was left out of Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations squad.
McInnes feared he might lose Adomah to up to a month and spent this week waiting anxiously for Ghana to name their 25-man squad for the tournament.
The Scot was relieved to find the in-form Adomah had been snubbed by Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic and now settled to aid their campaign in the Npower Championship.
“I can’t take the smile off my face. I’m absolutely delighted,” McInnes said.
“At least this clears the air now and Albert can just concentrate on doing what he does best, which is being a good player for Bristol City.
“The not knowing was becoming unsettling, because we want our best players available and Albert has been a big player in some of our better performances recently.”
McInnes however empathizes with the 23-year-old for missing out on his Nations Cup debut.
“Of course, it’s disappointing for him on a personal level, because players want to be able to showcase themselves in an event like that.
“If he was going to be a key player for Ghana, then it would have been a great experience for him.
“But Albert’s concern was that, if he wasn’t going to be starting a lot of games and being involved, he would rather be doing his bit for the club.
“That is the way it’s going to be and that’s good news for us and good news for the supporters. I’m sure Albert will get an opportunity to play for his country again.”
