Mr. Eric Opoku, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, has launched a Vocational and Technical Sports Association with a call on stakeholders to give the youth the opportunity to develop their talents.

He said the association would offer an additional platform to unearth sports talents among the youth and help them to contribute their quota to national development.

In an address read for him, Mr. Opoku expressed optimism about the formation and importance of the association and urged the executives to focus on developing the youth through sports.

Mr Opoku said formation of the association “falls in line with the government’s efforts to promote sports in all segments of the society and ultimately empower the youth”.

He gave assurance of the government’s support through providing infrastructure at the grassroots level to enhance the development and promotion of sports in the country.

Mr. George Yaw Mensah, chairman of the association, said almost all national vocational training institutions had over the years been left out in annual inter-colleges sports festivals.

He explained that the formation of the association was therefore to attract the youth to attend such institutions to learn trades.

He called on the government, sports authorities, non-governmental organizations, benevolent and other corporate bodies to come to their aid by means of sponsorship packages to help sustain the association.**
