Sunyani, (B/A) Nov. 26, GNA - The Brong-Ahafo Regional 2010-2011 Second Division Football League season will kick off at all league centres on January 9, 2011.

Mr Augustine Asante, Chairman of the Regional Football Association announced this at a meeting of representatives of Second Division Clubs of the Region at the Coronation Park in Sunyani. He said any of clubs interested in taking part in the league should register at the office of the Regional Association at the Coronation Park by December 31 this year with a registration fee of GHC20.00 Mr Asante said that 96 teams were registered and participated in the 2009/2010 league season, which was the greatest number of participating second division teams in the country. He said the large number of registered teams followed the Association's decision to give the chance to all interested teams in the region to test their might in the division's league and also develop talents of their players.

"Development of football in Brong-Ahafo Region cannot be limited to only clubs within and around Sunyani Municipality so we decided to widen the scope to embrace all clubs and individuals interested in the organisation of football in every part of the region", Mr Asante explained. He said the gates were open to as many second division clubs as possible to register for the 2010-2011 season competition. "Nobody gave Aduana Stars, fresh from Division One, a dog's chance to win last year's national Premier League but they went ahead to shock even the so-called soccer giants in the country", Mr Asante recalled. Mr Asante said that it was regrettable and unfortunate about the incident that happened during last season's league, which delayed the declaring of a Regional champion and urged officials of teams that would register to take part in this year's league to do everything possible to avoid a recurrence of that situation.

The Regional Chairman explained that in order to cut down transportation cost for teams traveling long distances to play away matches, next season's league would be designed for each District or Municipality to play matches depending on the number of teams. Mr Asante expressed regret about the nature of some of the Parks and playing fields which were used in the last season's league and said that the Association would inspect all venues before the commencement of the 2010-2011 league next January to ensure conducive playing grounds. The Association will not hesitate to sanction any team that will prove difficult and advised management of the Clubs to get copies of the Ghana Football Association governing the rules of the game to educate their supporters. 26 Nov. 10
