Brong Ahafo to mark republic day with Goalball competition

The Brong Ahafo Regional wing of the Ghana Blind Sports Association is organizing a goalball competition on Monday July, 2nd at the Sunyani Coronation Park. The event will see virtually impaired sports athletes compete in Goalball for both male and female, Football, short put and may others.

The purpose of the games is to popularize blind sports the in the region and also select formidable regional male and female Nucleus Goalball teams to prepare towards participation in national and international competitions such as the National Unity Games.

The Brong Ahafo Sports wing of the also intends to use this platform to create awareness on Goalball as an emerging sporting discipline for persons with disability in the Region. Teams that wins the Goalball and Football competition will be awarded with cash prizes in both male and female categories.

Goalball is a sport developed for blind and visually impaired players. Participants, in teams of three, try to throw a ball that has bells in it into the opponents’ goal.

The Ghana Blind Sports Association is the sports wing of the Ghana Blind Union, and affiliated to the international Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and mandated to develop blind sports in association with the National Paralympic Committee of Ghana.
