Sean Dyche was pleased with the impact teenage striker Dan Agyei made as he came off the bench for his Turf Moor debut against Manchester United.

The 19-year-old was making his third Premier League appearance as a substitute for Burnley and having had brief cameos at Liverpool and Everton he got his longest run out yet when coming on for Ashley Barnes 15 minutes from the end of Sunday's 2-0 defeat.

The former AFC Wimbledon youngster flashed one shot narrowly wide of goal and Dyche was delighted with the way he attempted to impact the game in the final quarter of an hour, while also praising Johann Berg Gudmundsson's role as a substitute as he made his return from injury.

"I was pleased with the subs. Johann came on bright and I thought Daniel Agyei did," said the Clarets chief.

"I thought the crowd were terrific with him, he’s a very young man to come on in a game like that.

"He’s realised the tempo and the pace of the Premier League. It’s important we remain focused on what we’re doing now but also that next layer that is coming through.

"It’s a big ask coming on against these but we want him to understand that’s the reality of the Premier League. To try and affect a game when you’re 2-0 down. He’s turned, he’s got a shot off, he’s driven a couple of times."

Dyche added: "It’s all part of the learning process for a young player. We didn’t do it for that reason, that’s a knock-on effect, we did it because we believe he could have affected it. Barnesy had give his lot as he always does.

"We’re not playing around with it, but it’s part of him growing and learning as a player."

Iceland winger Gudmundsson came on for the final half an hour at Turf Moor for his first appearance since suffering an injury in the FA Cup fifth round defeat to Lincoln City on February 18.

"I thought he had a real go when he came on," said Dyche. "We want people to affect it from the bench. It will need everything, everything we always give it will need it all for the last four games."
