"I anticipated the poor reception we are receiving here in Kenya but I told my players to focus on the task at hand," Asante Kotoko coach Charles Akunnor stated ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash against Kariobangi Sharks.
The Porcupine Warriors have blamed the Kenyan side for providing a small team bus and also giving them access to a substandard training venue as they prepare for the first leg match set for the Kasarani MISC Stadium on Saturday.
But speaking to Kumasi-based Oyerepa FM from their base in Kenya, coach Akunnor says he foresaw it hence advised his players to stay focused in order to return home with a positive result.
"We realised that the Kenyans were going to try to frustrate us so I spoke to the players at our first training to keep their focus on why we are in Kenya," Coach Akunnor stated on Oyerepa FM.
"We are here for a purpose and that mission must be accomplished. Once you are focused and know what you want, such issues shouldn't distract you in any way."
"If they should change bus given to us to the worse and it can only transport us to the stadium, that is important and we shouldn't bother."
"I have asked them to focus and not lose concentration on the match. Whatever it takes to win the match is what we have to do."
"Yesterday we had the last discussion, we are prepared for any other thing they will do any frustration, we want to remain focus, do this right thing and what matters most is the match tomorrow."
