CAF clears Kotoko's Yeboah

Accra, Sept 12, GNA - The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has given Kumasi Asante Kotoko's central defender Godfred Yeboah the green light to participate in the Group phase of their matches. The CAF Inter-Clubs Committee at its meeting in Cairo, Egypt on Friday morning ruled that Yeboah was eligible to play in the competition.

A source close to the continent's soccer controlling body told GNA Sports that the Committee after a critical analysis settled on the decision to clear the player.

The source further added that it therefore means that Yeboah who yet to feature in the Group stages for the 'Porcupine Warriors' is eligible to feature for tomorrow's Group B clash against J.S. Kabylie of Algeria slated for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi. The clearance of the player will surely be good news to the technical team and followers of Asante Kotoko as their defence had been suspect so far during their campaign.

Libyan side Al-Ittihad lodged a protest over the eligibility of Yeboah who served the remainder of the last soccer season on loan with Wa All Stars after Kotoko had beating the Libyans 4-3 to seal a place in the Group phase.

The protest of the Libyans was however dismissed by CAF for not conforming to Article 20 of the Competitions Regulations which states that protest should be lodged before the game and signed by the captains of the two sides.

CAF however suspended Yeboah from competing in further games till the meeting of the Inter-Clubs Committee. Yeboah, one the longest serving players of the 'Porcupine Warriors' was a member of the losing squads of the 2002 CAF Cup Winners final and the 2004 Confederations Cup before he was loaned off. 12 Sept. 08
