The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has described the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to revoke the approval of the Baba Yara Stadium as an embarrassment to the country.

CAF revoked the approval for Baba Yara Sports Stadium to host international matches, citing its status as a category 3 venue. This includes an uneven playing field, poor drainage, and inadequate grass cover.

Reacting to the news about CAF’s decision, Henry Asante Twum stated that the situation was an embarrassment to the country's sporting heroics, given Ghana's esteemed football reputation both in Africa and globally.

He explained that the African football governing body gave Ghana ample time to make amends in the past.

"The demands that were made, some were done, others were not. When we look at the support Ghanaians give us during Black Stars matches at home both on and off the pitch, it is very unfortunate. Definitely, we are embarrassed; it is not the best of news," he told Angel FM during an interview on September 12, 2024.

CAF’s latest decision was announced after the Black Stars lost their opening match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Both Ghana and Angola coaches complained about the poor nature of the pitch.

Meanwhile, the GFA spokesperson has also acknowledged the Black Stars' abysmal performance in the 2025 AFCON qualifiers and hopes for a positive change in future games.

"It [Black Stars' performance] doesn’t look good on paper, but before the next international break, anything is possible and things can change. The coaches have assured us that they will take drastic measures to ensure we get back to winning ways," he added.

The Black Stars will take on Sudan in the qualifiers in a doubleheader in October.
