CIIG organises health walk for members

Chartered Insurance Institute of Ghana (CIIG), an umbrella institute for the insurance industry, has organised a health walk through some principal streets of Accra on Saturday, for the staff of its member companies.

The walk, which drew participants from professionals within the Insurance Industry commenced from the CIIG Head office through to the Osu Oxford street and back to the CIIG Head office for the aerobics session and health screening exercise.

Madam Yvonne Osei Addo, General Secretary of CIIG said, the walk was the final event of the year for the CIIG.

She said, it was important for staff of members companies to exercise for good health, adding that it was an opportunity for the participants to socialise as well.

“This health walk is the final event of CIIG for the year and it was basically to exercise and get the professionals together. CIIG is the professional body of the institutes, so it is here that we bring together the insurance companies, the reinsurance companies, the brokers, the lost adjusters to fraternise and socialise,” she said.

“Today was basically to exercise and we have had the health stand where people checked their weight and blood pressure to keep themselves healthy. We have had a series of programmes like the President’s Cocktail, the Annual General meeting, public lectures and many others already, so this was just to climax our year activities and probably set the tone for next year.

"Next year we will be having quite a number of activities. We are going to embark on other programmes that will make the industry a better one.”

Mr. Kofi Okoampah Akoto, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of CIIG said, the health walk among other things was an avenue to make the CIIG visible by sensitizing members and the public of the new brand.

“Currently what we do is that examinations are organised by Chartered Insurance Institute of the UK and all the exams are written externally. So what we are trying to do, we are rebranding from the Insurance Institute of Ghana to the Chartered Insurance Institute. And were getting a royal charter very soon,” he said.

“What we intend to do is to bring all the professionals together. That is people who have studied and come out as chartered insurers. We also have members who are students and learning and we are bringing together an institution that we are going to conduct our own examinations very soon here in Ghana.”

He said the CIIG was established to ensure sanity in the insurance industry and by that protect customer interest and as well improve public confidence within the industry.
