Former Black Stars coach, C.K. Akonnor, has endorsed the idea of building the Ghanaian national team around the talented West Ham forward, Mohammed Kudus.

Akonnor, who spoke to Citi Sports, acknowledged the player's significant contributions to Ghana's soccer profile but emphasized that the final decision should rest with the current head coach, Otto Addo.

"He is our star; we can't argue about it. He is our star; he is the person making waves for us as far as Ghana soccer or Ghana is concerned. He is the one making the name for us," Akonnor said. "So there is nothing wrong with that; however, it is up to the coach to know exactly what to do. He is a good player, a young chap who has developed from the youth to this level, so we should be happy to have someone like him."

Mohammed Kudus, who currently plays as a midfielder for West Ham United, featured in Ghana's recent victories. He played in the team's wins against Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. The former Ajax player has been lauded for his impressive performance in the Premier League this season.

As Ghana gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the USA, the team is currently second in Group I of the qualifiers. With nine points, Ghana is level with Comoros after four games.
