CK Akunnor has expressed shock at his dismissal from Hearts of Oak and says he never saw it coming.
The contract of the 38-year-old was terminated on Wednesday following the club’s poor start to the Ghana Premier League campaign.
Three defeats, a draw and a win in the opening fives matches was deemed as a massive failure and the Board of Directors descended heavily on the former Ghana captain by showing him the exit door.
Akunnor has expressed surprise at the turn of event and admits his sacking will negatively affect his career.
“Obviously, I feel very bad because I didn’t see this coming. It is very bad for my career because I wanted to achieve something special here,” Akunnor told the State-owned Ghana News Agency
“But this is the nature of our trade; today you are here, tomorrow you are gone.
“I thought we will play Real Tamale United and I will seek to turn things around. Suddenly, see what has happened. I have been surprised indeed.
“This is too bad because am not the problem. Only time will tell. Soon we will all know if I was the problem or not, which I so well know I wasn’t. “It was always difficult without the needed support.
“Hearts was a work in progress. We were working very hard and gradually, we had moved from the team none respected when the preseason began when we were losing and playing poorly to a team that was gradually gaining respect.
“Drawing the first game and beating Edubiase convincingly in the second, I naturally expected support and encouragement. But all I got was negative vibes and that surprised me. Suddenly, the team slammed again and that was shocking.”
Akunnor was appointed in March 2011 after the club parted ways with Serbian trainer Nebojsa Vucicevic
