CK Gyamfi named African Legend by CAF

Ghana's C.K. Gyamfi was named an African Legend by CAF at the 2015 GLO-CAF Awards ceremony held in Abuja Nigeria on Thursday tonight.

The former Black Stars coach was given the award alongside Cameroon's Mbappe Leppe, who also reached greater heights with the Indomitable Lions and Cameroonian football at large.

The Ghanaian legend who passed on a few months ago was given a state burial in his home country, Ghana, but the Confederation of African Football has also conferred on him the legendary status.

Edwin Gyamfi received the award on behalf of his father.

He became the first African to play in Germany when he joined Fortuna Dusseldorf in 1960, and later became the first coach to lead the Ghana Black Stars to an African Cup of Nations victory.

As coach of the Black Stars, he won the Nations Cup three times [1962,1962 and 1982], making him the most successful coach in the competition's history.

Gyamfi was also the coach of the Ghana national football team during their Olympic debut at the 1964 Summer Olympics.

He returned to coach the Olympic team for the 1972 tournament.

He was a member of FIFA's Technical Study Group for the 1999 Cup in New Zealand and 2001 FIFA Youth Championship in Argentina.
