COVID-19: Sporting activities suspended until July 31

The hope of football activities returning behind closed doors has been dealt a big blow as sporting activities has been suspended until 31 July 2020 according to Nana Akufo-Addo-Addo in his State of the Nation address.

The President Akufo-Addo-Addo announced this during his 10th address on the measures taken against the spread of the coronavirus on Sunday 31 May 2020.

“I have by Executive instrument provided for these new directions and extended the suspension of the remaining public gatherings, as set out in the in EI. 64 of 15 March until 31 July. In here, I refer to sporting events, nightclubs, cinemas, drinking bars, beaches, festivals, funerals, political rallies and large religious programs such as crusades, pilgrimage and conventions”.

On the other hand, some non contact sport such as golf, tennis, swimming have been given the green light to restart.

Sporting activities have been suspended since March this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ghana has recorded over 8,070 cases with 36 people dead.
