Canadian Athletes begin visit to Ghana

Samsam Odumase, (G/A), April 7, GNA - Four Canadian Athlete-Ambassadors on Monday, began a four-day visit to Ghana to acquaint themselves with the work of Right To Play, an international humanitarian organization that use sports and play programmes to teach children life skills and health education.

The visit of the team which is under the invitation of the organization, took the visitors, led by Clara Hughes to Samsam Odumase near Amasaman in the Ga West District where they interacted with the children of the Methodist Primary School.

Miss Joyce Ashun, Country Manager of Right To Play said her organization has since 2001 embarked on using sports and play as a tool for development in Ghana.

She said Right to Play Ghana has been granted a three-year funding by the Canadian government and that the visit forms part of the collaboration between the Canadian International Development Agency and Right To Play.

Miss Ashun said Right To Play has so far trained 668 coaches and reached out to about 26,902 children in the Greater Accra, Northern, Upper West and Volta Regions.

Other members of the delegation who earlier on visited PRESEC Basic Schools were Emily Brydon, Steve Omischl and Millisa Hollington. Madam Hughes expressed happiness about the organization's work so far and expressed the hope that the visit would shape and influence the lives of the children.
