Bolgatanga, Jan. 21, GNA - A Canadian based soccer association, Glamorgan Community Soccer Association, has donated two sets of jerseys and other soccer items to the Under 12 Colts team of Catholic Stars FC of Bolgatanga.
The gesture forms as part of preparations towards an official adoption of the Ghanaian team by the Glamorgan Community Soccer Association.
Mr Franklyn Atogiyire, Team Manager of the Club in an interview with GNA Sports in Bolgatanga on Wednesday, said that the team has started making use of the jerseys, footballs and other items and expressed the hope that the Soccer Association would continue to assist the team to bring up more youthful soccer talents in the Upper East Region.
"Managing a juvenile team in a Region like ours, where parents cannot adequately support their children with soccer logistics like soccer boots and training jerseys due to their poverty levels, puts a whole load on the management of the teams, which is not an easy task to carry."
Mr Atogiyire said the poverty levels and provision of needed logistics thus affect the quality and development of the talents of young footballers who when given a little push can improve on their talents and become stars in future. The Team Manager commended Miss Sheila Azuntaaba, former Miss Ghana, for connecting the Colts team with the Glamorgan Community Soccer Association in Alberta, Canada and called on other natives of the Region to use their influence and contacts to get the needed support for their communities to help reduce poverty and ensure their socio-economic development.
