Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz and sports journalist Countryman Songo
Ghanaian sports journalist Patrick Osei Agyemang, also known as Countryman Songo, has demanded that Carlos Queiroz wins the 2026 FIFA World Cup to appease fans.
He fumed over the fact that some top personalities in the sporting fraternity have been extolling the Portuguese coach solely based on his credentials, which he finds worrying.
The Adom TV journalist explained that the focus should be on what Queiroz can offer the national team at a time when the nation is enduring a trophy drought.
7 facts you must know about new Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz
Countryman Songo cited recent coaches who were hired and later sacked, costing the nation huge sums of money in compensation fees.
“We always follow the Black Stars. Look at the last five years, what happened? We are part of it. The coaching is not good, yet you follow all the time, taking per diem. You have brought a popular coach, so there is propaganda that we have not seen his type before. The results matter to us. Can he deliver that? Are we looking at the name or the quality he brings to win trophies?” he questioned during the Fire for Fire show on Adom TV.
The controversial sports journalist stressed that there will be no tolerance for mediocrity for Black Stars coaches anymore, hence Queiroz must work diligently to win the World Cup.
“Do you think we are going to the World Cup for the quarter-final or semi-final stage? He must win the cup. Some people want to play with our minds. In this country, we give roles to people who don’t perform, and we waste taxpayers’ money,” he added.
