GWF sets sight on African Youth Medal haul in 2016

Ghana Weightlifting Federation(GWF)has set its sight on producing an African Youth Champion by the end of 2016.

President of the GWF Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah hinted at giving much premium to the young athletes in a bid to seal the much-revered world title.

The Federation recently stormed the international headlines at the International weightlifting championship in Houston in November 2015.

President of the GWF has promised to concentrate on the young lifters in the country if they are to fulfil their four-year development plan which ends in 2016.

Mr Ben Nunoo Mensah confided the genuine talents of the upcoming weight lifters like Christian Amoah, Nii Lakai Otto and Abigail Ogbodaa as the reason to swing the pendulum in favour of the youth.

He expressed the readiness of his outfit to concentrate on these budding stars if they to win the much-coveted championship on the continent and beyond.

“Our four-year development plan will take us into 2016. We are hoping that we could produce junior and youth champions in Africa and the youth Commonwealth Games as well. We are looking at producing youth champions because we think that the future of the game.” the President said in an interview.

He added, “our focus is on the youth and that is how come our work is targeted at getting young people into the game. Don’t be too surprised if Christian Amoah, Abigail Ogbodae and Nii Lakae pick up medals at Commonwealth Junior and Olympics Junior titles for the country”.

16-year-old Charles Amoah starred for Ghana at the IWF in Houston at the 84kg category where he placed an enviable 29th whiles Forrester Osei Agyemang ended his 94 kg category on the 34th slot in the global ranking.
