Charles Amoah named biggest flop in Austria

Former Black Stars striker Charles Amoah has been branded the biggest flop in Austrian football in a decade.

The 32-year-old was handed the humiliating tag after a survery by Austrian newspaper Sport1 on Thursday.

Amoah joined the country's top league side Sturm Graz in 2001 as the most expensive player in the country.

Sturm Graz side paid ?2.5 to Swiss side St Gallen for Amoah's transfer and for three years he was the most expensive player in Austria.

The Ghanaian striker had helped St. Gallen to win the Swiss title in 2001 and was the country's top goalscorer that year.

His perforamcne alerted the Graz side who signed him and he impressed in his first season, helping them to reach the second group stage of the Uefa Champions League.

But in a disastrous reverse, injuries took their toll which led to his loss of form and absence from the game for a long time.

Amoah is trying to revive his career with in Austria with Linz.

Even though he has been derided in Austria, he is seen as a cult figure in Switzerland after his extraordinary ahievement in the country's league.
