Chelsea have appointed former Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca as their new head coach ahead of the 2024/2025 European football season.

The Italian has signed a five-year contract with the two-time UEFA Champions League winners, which will run until 2029, with an option to extend by a year.

Maresca reportedly joined Chelsea along with six backroom staff members, which cost Chelsea €10 million in compensation to Leicester.

In a statement released on Monday, June 3, 2024, Chelsea noted that the gaffer will begin work on July 1, 2024.

"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Enzo Maresca as the new head coach of the men's team.

The Italian will begin his new role on July 1, 2024, on a five-year contract, with a club option for a further year," the club wrote on their website.

Enzo Maresca, 44, began his managerial career in 2020 when he served as an assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

He has since managed Parma and Leicester City. He won the Championship with Leicester in the recently concluded 2023/2024 campaign, leading them to gain promotion to the Premier League.
