Chess Association donates to National Sports Council

Accra, June 9, GNA - The Ghana Chess Association on Tuesday donated playing materials to the National Sports Council (NSC) towards the development of the sport in the country. The materials worth about 10,000 Ghana Cedis consisted of 200 Chess Pieces.

Wing Commander George Arko-Dadzie, Vice-Chairman of the Association said the materials were presented to them by the World body for honouring their commitment to the sport. He said the materials will be distributed to the Regional Association and selected institutions to assist in the development of the sport.

Arko-Dadzie said the materials will go a long way towards the realization of NSC's Chief Executive, Worlanyo Agrah's vision to promote "lesser known" sports.

Ohene Karikari, Deputy Sports Development Officer who received the materials on behalf of the Council commended the Ghana Chess Association for their gesture. He assured that the materials will be used for the intended objectives to make chess rate among the elite sporting disciplines.
