Nigeria Premier League side, Nasarawa United's player Chieme Martins lost his life at the Lafia Town Stadium on Sunday during their clash with Katsina United.
The defender collided with an opponent on the pitch, leading to calls for an ambulance to take him away from the pitch.
The ambulance however failed to start, leading to the untimely death of the player. According to sources, there was no fuel in the car.
His loss sent shock waves around his team mates who taught he will be well when taken to the hospital.
The home team and other authorities will face the law as a result of this.
Martins was excellent on the pitch prior to his demise as Nasarawa hammered Katsina United with Chinedu Ohanachom scoring a hat-trick.
